“Shit Men Say to Men Who Say Shit to Women on the Street” was inspired by International Anti-Street Harassment Week.
It was created by a group of women and men in NYC who believe that street harassment is wrong, and that we all have a role to play in ending it - especially us guys.
The video shows non-violent ways that men can interrupt street harassment as it happens.
I LOVE THIS.
“Let’s put it this way: Imagine that you need Viagra. Imagine that a law passed by an 80 percent female Legislature mandates that to obtain a prescription, you have to procure an affidavit from a sexual partner verifying that you are indeed incapable of an erection.
“Or maybe, before obtaining a vasectomy, you have to undergo an ultrasound on your testicles — wherein a technician must apply gel and press a hand-held transducer on your private parts. The legislation mandates that you watch images of your sperm on a monitor as a doctor describes the millions of pre-human lives you are about to end.”
Basically everything I rant about on a daily basis.
so much yes.
Jean Kilbourne on the dangers of unattainable body image on girls and women.
This may be a campaign about HIV/AIDS awareness, but that’s no excuse. This is blatant misogyny, really sinister stuff that conveys a much more profound message about the female body.
Take another look at it. She’s got a killer smile, but still, you can’t see her eyes. The model is cropped so that she’s essentially headless. What makes her human is gone. What makes her a woman is on display. That’s a very deliberate creative choice.
She is an object to be fucked without a brain or an identity. Worse still, her vagina is a fully indexed destination on a Google map. The visual metaphor is so potent (and porn is so ubiquitous) that this image is more jarring than one in which she shows us her actual pussy.
It’s not about the fact that she’s had sex with Bill Johnson and 19 others. Who gives a fuck? What’s toxic is the idea that they checked into her vagina on Foursquare. It’s saying is that a her private parts aren’t private at all. They’re public. That’s the implicit message in this image, and it’s degrading as hell.
It’s not slut-shaming so much as it’s female-shaming, and it reinforces the age-old cultural narrative that women’s bodies aren’t their own.
feelings of grossness about this image.
I am so repulsed by this. Why is it anyone’s business how many people this woman has slept with? HIV can be passed on by one partner, why do you have to instill the [incorrect] assumption that sleeping with multiple partners is the problem? IT ISN’T. This ad has nothing to do with condoms, except the tiny grey subtext saying ‘Use a Condom’. What a disgustingly sexist ad.
A slide from anthropology class that I found quite powerful.
Woah. Really interesting… I want to find that article.

When the fuck was it decided that we should start teaching our daughters to accept being belittled, disrespected and abused as endearing treatment? And we have the audacity to wonder why women stay in abusive relationships? How did society become so oblivious to the fact that we were conditioning our daughters to endure abusive treatment, much less view it as romantic overtures? Is this where the phrase “hitting on girls” comes from? Well, here is a tip: Save the “it’s so cute when he gets hateful/physical with her because it means he loves her” asshattery for your own kids, not mine. While you’re at it, keep them away from my kids until you decide to teach them respect and boundaries.

“I call myself a feminist. Isn’t that what you call someone who fights for women’s rights?” —the Dalai Lama XIV

I would say, that feminists are the most idiotic, short sighted morons in the history of the human race.
The world was a better place when women remained at home, and no, this isn’t me trying to belittle the female population, I’m saying that they did an extremely important job in the past, and shaped the future just as much as men did.
Lets take a look at what women tended to do. Most stayed at home, looked after the house, did the shopping and raised the children. Fantastic, what could be more worth while. Women where the back bone of a community. But, feminists, thought women could be so much more. Which yes, you have all proven you can do just as much as men, not shut the fuck up, get back in the kitchen, and help bring back the community spirit that people miss and yurn for so badly.
When the women stayed at home and brought up the kids, they enstilled them values within them, thought them right, from wrong. Now, mothers tend to be in the office, don’t really give that much of a shit about their family, because they feel they have something to prove, that they are better than men. In reality, they already ha an extremely important role, the back bone of a family, and, in turn, the community.
Now, to get away from trying to sound like women should just stay at home in the kitchen, I’m going to challenge what feminists moan the most about in the work place, equal pay, and you know what, it’s fucking simple why men get more pay for doing the exact same job, because we have a cock!
You get hired for a job, 3 years down the line, you fuck off on maternity leave. In the meantime, the Manager of said company who hired you, must hire someone else to do your job, while your away, while paying you. For that reason, you deserve to be paid less, because in reality, hiring a woman, is most likely to cost more in the long run, than hiring a man. It is that simple.
So feminists, call me sexist, call me what you will, because in reality, you know that everything I have said in this post, is true. I’m all for equality, share the rolls within a household, but lets be perfectly honest, this country was less fucked up when you, at most, only had a part time job, and where home more to make sure your children grew up into good, honest individuals.
Feminists, look at what it’s like now: High teenage pregnancy, a lot of kids don’t know the difference between a banana and a cucumber, and there is a major lack of respect within the younger generation today, resulting is us all being branded happy slapping thungs by the media.
So are you really proud of what you have accomplished?
Actually, though, there are very few things in this post that are “true”.
What is true is that women have historically worked very hard, whether it’s at raising children and making meals, or running her own business. You got that part right.
Now, as for the other part of your post, why are you telling women to get in the kitchen? Shouldn’t men be able to fend for themselves? Shouldn’t two partners in a relationship share responsibilities in the home they share? Doesn’t this mean that they can both have a job outside of the house and split the time raising children, cleaning, and cooking? Why do household tasks have to be the jobs solely of women?
More questions for you. What does you having a penis have to do with your work ethic? Because women have children? Both mothers AND fathers {in heterosexual relationships} of children should have parental leave. Fathers should spend as much time with their children as mothers. And, for the record, not all women have children. Even if your argument made sense, why should ALL women get paid less because SOME have children and need to take maternity leave because our system is sexist and doesn’t have paternity leave?
Um and it’s sure as hell not feminists’ fault that there’s high teenage pregnancy, that the education system in this country is shitty, and that the media controls most people’s everyday lives. Honestly, that’s mostly the fault of men. Look at the ratio of men to women in government in this country. You can blame education issues on the people who legislate the way education is run. You can blame media on the people who run the media—again, overwhelmingly men.
In conclusion, none of your “arguments” make any sense at all.
